Auditmaker

The ACEBCP is pleased to announce the free distribution of our fantastic clinical audit tool called auditmaker for helping clinicians to set up a clinical audit database. For those of you that have not had the pleasure of attending one of our workshops where Dr. Sepehr Shakib (member of our steering committee and author of the database) demonstrates the capabilities of this tool - then listen up! This tool really does make audit easy.

Built on an ACCESS platform the first few screens of this tool are designed to help you clarify exactly what type of audit you want to do. To begin with, you are prompted to enter a title for your audit and then to choose whether it is retrospective, prospective or both. If this kind of terminology is enough to frighten you off, don't despair. Simply click on the help menu and the prompts will help you determine what type of audit you are going to do. Then the tool asks you to identify what the goals of your audit are and what outcomes you are interested in. By the time you have filled out the first half dozen responses you can generate a draft/outline for your ethics proposal by simply clicking a button.

The data entry screens are similarly easy to establish. They include in-built demographic and co-morbidity menus as well as the ability to add your own personal choices. But there's more! The tool also has a series of standard reports that can be printed out which summarise the data that has been entered to date. So you don't have to wait for 6 or 12 months to get a statistician to analyse your data you can look at simple summaries (including means and medians) at the click of a button. For those of you wanting a more sophisticated analysis the information in your database can be transported, at any stage, to EXCEL and then to a package like SPSS for further manipulation.

Sound too good to be true? Well why not register as a user of this tool and let us know what you think. You might be wondering "What's in it for us?" All the ACEBCP asks is that clinicians requesting a copy of the software accept the following terms and conditions which include giving the ACEBCP permission to display the title of your audit, together with your institution's name and the contact details of the principal auditor/investigator on the ACEBCP website.
